W Initiative supports 'TV-aksjonen' and Plan International
Every three seconds a girl gets married before her 18th birthday, putting her in peril from abuse, violence, and early pregnancy. Child marriage also effectively stops her childhood, her education, and a future of her own choice. Poverty is one of the main reasons for child marriage, and the problem is most pressing in the countries of Bangladesh, Nepal, Malawi, Mali and Niger.
It costs 5500 NOK to stop one girl getting married, and we hope our contribution will give 100 girls a fair chance of shaping a future of their own choice. This year’s TV-aksjonen falls in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal number five; gender equality and empower all women and girls - which is one of the goals the W Initiative works for.
